20th Anniversary of ACDM
20th Anniversary of ACDM
2023 marks the 20th year of the formation of ACDM. Through the course of these 20 years, the ACDM has seen much success on disaster management within the ASEAN Region, including in the cases of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2008 Cyclone Nargis, the 2011 Thailand floods, and the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
As such, a commemoration event will be held on 24th August 2023 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the ACDM.
ASEAN Strategic Policy Dialogue on Disaster Management (SPDDM) 2023ASEAN Strategic Policy Dialogue on Disaster Management (SPDDM) 2023
As the pinnacle event of the week-long ADMW, SPDDM 2023 will invoke discussion on the future landscape of ASEAN’s disaster management by bringing in experts and renowned practitioners of climate-induced disaster resilience, technology, artificial intelligence, geographic information systems, and innovative proactive disaster management. Preparation for the future is always paramount in disaster resilience. The need to generate dialogue and create consciousness about the dynamic future is thus aptly encapsulated by the theme for SPDDM 2023 “Disaster Resilience: Investing Today for a Sustainable Region”. This edition of SPDDM aims to elicit forward looking ideas that can potentially enhance disaster resilience in ASEAN. At the same time, there is also an emphasis on viewing disaster resilience through a plurality of lenses, thus providing a holistic view of disaster resilience.
The SPDDM 2023 will comprise the following sub-themes for in-depth discussions:
- Keynote Presentation: “Building Resilience to Climate-Induced Disasters”
- High-Level Panel Discussion: “Bridging the Gap: Enhancing Communication and Early Action for Proactive Disaster Management”
